nothing could be easier.

I always get a laugh when I hear on the news of a new 'miracle' drug that will surely end peoples struggles with their weight. Of course they don't work for everyone and have embarassing side effects. The weight loss problem has always been a mystery to me, losing or maintaining a healthy weight can be simplified down to two very simple phrases, which are:
* exercise moderately, eg a brisk walk for half an hour a day
* eat a well balanced diet
I would also add that people should laugh, yes, laugh as much as possible.
In Australia, levels of overweight/obese people and children are worringly high, just behind the US, in fact, and in the years to come will be a major burden on our already underfunded health system. This is a problem that needs to be tackled in a serious way, right now! Unfortunately this will never be done because of the influence of the meat and dairy industries have in pretty much every industrialised country in the world.

A simple question for you: how often is something that is actually good for you advertised on television? My answer would be close to never. This includes all those dairy and meat commercials that are regularly screened here in Australia and no doubt everywhere else. Just some basic research will show you not only the horrors these animals have to go through on these factories (believe me, farms are a thing of the past) you will also find out how bad these products are for your weight and your health. (More on this topic to come)

So, back to the topic of the day, while drug companies make millions selling their weight loss drugs, quacks make millions selling weight loss books, McDonalds makes millions fattening people up while trying to convince people how good their food is, there is the underlying truth to this issue, which is that we keep getting fatter and fatter with no prospect of this trend reversing.

This goes to show that society as it is today has lost it's way, people who are happy and have a realistic self image and haven't fallen prey to the consume at all costs mentality, don't tend to shove vast amounts of unhealthy food into their mouths.

A final tip for everyone out there, exercise makes you feel great, if you haven't exercised for some time, you will be amazed by the change you will feel within yourself once you get going!

The mystery is this, people have to decide whole heartedly that it is worth it to change their ways.  Some people have emotional ties to food.  If they don't committ to change being worth it, it won't happen.  It seems very simple to eat foods that are good for you and to exercise but old habits die very hard.  Oprah Winfrey referred to it as "making the connection".

I don't believe in miracle pills.  I believe you have to want to be healthy and you have to constantly make good food choices.  There is no diet that allows you to eat "all the foods you love" and stay healthy because the foods that these people love are what put them in their condition.

If you eat salads, parfaits and water at McD's, you will be fine.  How many people eat that way when they go there though?  Most stop by for a quick, cheap meal of burgers, fries and a giant soda.  That is what makes people obese.  No outside source did it.  It was their own choices.
